National Housing Trust Fund State Estimates Released Print E-mail

December 8, 2009 - HUD has published its proposed allocation formula to be used for the National Housing Trust Fund (NHTF) when it is funded by Congress, in the February 4 Federal Register.  According to a National Low Income Housing Coalition analysis of the formula, Connecticut would receive $11,100,000 per $1 billion invested in the NHTF.  Because Congress has not yet funded the program and total funding amounts are uncertain, this $11 million for Connecticut is only an estimate.

The formula for each state is based on its shortage of standard rental units affordable and available to extremely low income renters (below 30% of Area Median Income), as well relative costs of construction in different states.

- The proposed regulations can be found in the Federal Register for December 4.
- NLIHC preliminary estimates of state allocation amounts are available here.
