Urgent Action Alert: Fund the National Housing Trust Fund Print E-mail

December 11, 2009 - Please call Senator Dodd and Senator Lieberman TODAY and ask them to support an amendment to the Department of Defense Appropriations Act that would fund the National Housing Trust Fund with $1 billion. Please ask them to support this amendment as-is.

The amendment:

  • Funds the National Housing Trust Fund with $1 billion.
  • Allocates $65 million for incremental project-based voucher assistance or project-based rental assistance.
  • Contains the Brooks Amendment, which amends the tenant rent contribution requirements in public housing should not exceed 30% of the adjusted income of a family.

Click here to read the amendment.

The Department of Defense Appropriations Act is a “must-pass” bill. Both Senator Dodd and Senator Lieberman have supported the National Housing Trust Fund in the past, and Senator Dodd supported the initial passage in the HERA legislation in 2008.

Please call Senators Dodd and Lieberman TODAY. Thank them for supporting the National Housing Trust Fund in the past and urge them to include this amendment.

If $1 billion were invested in the NFTF, Connecticut would receive an estimated $11,100,000, according to the National Low Income Housing Coalition’s analysis of HUD’s proposed allocation formula.
