July 6, 2010 - The CT Mainstreet Center has embarked upon a year-long series of workshops to help municipalities, land use planners, state agency representatives, developers and other practitioners foster compact, mixed-use, mixed-income development that is well-connected to quality transit service.
In some cases this means housing and other development around major transit like rail or busway, but could also entail development in town centers where people can travel by bus, trolley, ferry, bike, or by walking. Participants heard from state and local officials that have implemented TOD along a coastal corridor in Maine and in downtown Arlington, VA, as well as a TOD expert that consults with cities and regions nationwide. CT Mainstreet has made speakers’ presentations available online - http://www.ctmainstreet.org/workshops-training.html.
